The High Atlas, North Africa’s greatest mountain range, contains some of the most intriguing and beautiful regions of Morocco. The M'Goun massif offers some of the best walking in Morocco, as well as fantastic local architecture. Jebel Mgoun, at 4,071 metres (13,356 ft), the second highest peak of the High Atlas Mountain Range, lies near Azilal, some 2.5 hours' drive east of Marrakech. This remote area is visually very distinctive, being composed of long crested ridges, escarpments and deep gorges.
The Valley of Roses sits at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco, where the mountains meet the Dadès Valley. It is irrigated by the Asif M'Goun river and its main village is Kelaat M'Gouna. Rose cultivation takes place in two distinct geographical areas: the first begins at around 10 km from Kelaat M'Gouna village and continues for 10 km, ending near the town of Boumalne Dadès.
